REEGLE is the information gateway for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. It is owned by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP). REEEP is a public-private partnership launched at the Johannesburg World Summit in 2002. REEEP aims to accelerate the global marketplace for energy efficiency and renewable energy by actively facilitating financing mechanisms for sustainable energy projects and structuring policy initiatives for clean energy markets on the ground.

The FFF offers an independent multi-disciplinary forum committed to the development of individuals, industry and government through on-going education, conferences and courses. The FFF assists in coordinating projects including national policies and regional coal research and development.

Big EE

bigEE is an international initiative of research institutes for technical and policy advice and public agencies in the field of energy and climate. Co-ordinated by the Wupertal Institute in Germany, Its aim is to develop the international web-based knowledge platform for energy efficiency in buildings, building-related technologies and appliences in the worlds main climatic zones.

The South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) has partnered with Tshireleco High School in Kimberley for the implementation of the clean energy project. The two met recently at the school for their first official meeting. The department of Energy together with SANEDI had pledged towards introducing clean energy to the school with the purpose

SANEDI is funded by the Department of Science and Technology as the custodian of research and innovation in the country. Since SANEDI’s focus is energy, the Department of Energy has input on the strategic direction or research focus.


CEFF (Pty) Ltd is a state-owned company involved in the search for appropriate energy solutions to meet the future energy needs of South Africa, the Southern African Development Community and the sub-Saharan African region, including oil, gas, electrical power, solar energy, low-smoke fuels, biomass, wind and renewable energy sources. CEF also manages the operation and development of the oil and gas assets and operations of the South African government.

International Energy Agency

The International Energy Agency (IEA) acts as energy policy advisor to 26 Member countries in their effort to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for their citizens. Founded during the oil crisis of 1973-74, the IEA’s initial role was to co-ordinate measures in times of oil supply emergencies. As energy markets have changed, so has the IEA. Its mandate has broadened to incorporate the “Three E’s” of balanced energy policy making: enery security, economic development and environmental protection. Current work focuses on climate change policies, market reform, energy technology collaboration and outreach to the rest of the world, especially major producers and consumers of energy like China, India, Russia and the OPEC countries.
The IEA is a key strategic partner for Saneri and we plan to be South Africa’s implementing agency on the IEA’s Implementing Agreements.

The Energy Technology Data Exchange, ETDE

The Energy Technology Data Exchange, ETDE, is a multilateral energy information exchange initiative under the International Energy Agency (IEA) framework. ETDE’s vast collection of energy-related information is available through the ETDEWEB World Energy Base or ETDEWEB.

Paraffin Safety Association of South Africa

The (PASASA) is a joint social responsibility intitiative of the pretroleum companies BP, Caltex, Engen, Sasol, Shell and Total that aims to address negative consequences of domestic paraffin use, including burn injuries, township fires and the inhalation of toxic fumes. It set itself the goal of halving the number of paraffin related incidents by 2009.


ESASTAP is a dedicated platform for the advancement of European – South African scientific and technologies cooperation.

Accelerate your energy research with literature from the ETDEWEB

The Energy Technology Data Exchange World Energy Base (ETDEWEB) is a compilation of about 4 million energy R&D publications, including published and grey literature from different countries. SANEDI’s agreement with the ETDE allows the South African based community to access the database ‘free of charge’. ETDE is a programme of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

International Conference on Coal Science and Technology

International Conference on Coal Science and Technology . This Conference will enhance local efforts to build capacity in South Africa in the coal sector. In particular, emphasis is being placed on the involvement of students from final year graduate studies as well as post graduate studies in the field of science and engineering. SANERI is supporting the attendance of students to the Conference.
