Energy Modeller

Overview:

Department : CESAR

Main purpose of role:An Energy Modeller constructs engineering and economic models to represent the performance of a system, in order to evaluate and quantify the impact of policy, design, retrofit and operational decisions.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering (with preference to Master’s/PhD in Energy Studies)
  • Quantitative skills – experience of quantitative analysis and use of computer models, preferably in an energy context .
  • Good presentation skills – ability to present technical work to colleagues and to external audiences;
  • Economic and policy skills – ability to understand and critique economic analyses, business strategies or public policies (preferably with an energy sector focus/interest)
  • Graduate in relevant quantitative subject, e.g. science, engineering or economics, preferably with a further degree
  • High quality writing and analytical skills – ability to distil key messages from complex source data/reports.
  • Strong inter-personal skills, articulate and able to work with a diverse team of colleagues with backgrounds across science, engineering, business, economics and policy.
  • Exposure to and understanding of a range of energy policy issues (desirable).

Senior Advisor: Measurement & Verification, (M & V)

Overview:

Department : Energy Efficiency

To manage the measurement and verification REVIEW function of all savings accomplished under Section 12I and Section 12L of the Income Tax Amendment Act and associated Regulations, whilst also verifying the sustainability thereof through proper contract and project management, in line with PMSA project management methodologies.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Engineering Qualification (Mechanical, Chemical and/or Electrical).
  • CEM (Certified Energy Manager), certification would be an advantage.
  • CMVP (Certified Measurement and Verification Professional), certification essential.

Related Experience:

  • 5 years, (excluding years of study)
  • Knowledge of Project and contract management.
  • Engaging and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of basic Financial & Commercial processes
  • Knowledge and excellent understanding of energy efficiency, process optimisation, load/demand management and renewable energies,
  • General understanding of the energy supply-side and demand-side management and their impacts on the environment,
  • Knowledge of the income tax incentives, (Section 12I & 12L),
  • Integrated knowledge of M&V related standards, regulations, guidelines and best practices, (IPMVP I, II & III, SANS 50 010:2012).

A growth position has become available within the Programme Management Unit (PMU) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Solar Technology Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Programme. The Programme is funded by the DST and implemented by the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI). The successful candidate will be based at SANEDI offices in Sandton.

Minimum Requirements:
