About the position:
The smart grids division requires a project manager with electricity distribution network experience to support pilot projects within municipal distribution networks, in addition to applied energy research for the development of smart grids in South Africa. The position requires an individual ready to lead and coordinate the day to day running of project activities within the division in addition to other responsibilities as required. Project management coordination will be pursued through the undertaking of appropriate actions, systems thinking in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of any undertaken. Invitation for applications to serve on the audit committee for the South African National Energy Development Institute
The South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) was established in 2011 under the National Energy Act, 2008 (Act No. 34 of 2008). The Act provides for SANEDI to direct, monitor, and conduct energy research and development, promote energy research and technology innovation, and undertake measures to promote energy efficiency throughout the economy.
SANEDI invites applications from suitably qualified persons to serve as members of its Audit and Risk Committee. Two (2) Audit Committee members are required.
The Audit Committee is an advisory committee charged with fulfilling oversight responsibilities with regard to internal control, risk management and governance processes. Regulating and discharging the responsibilities as contained in the Audit Committee Charter. The Audit Committee will meet at least four times per year, and special meetings may be held.
A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Accounting, Risk Management, Legal or Auditing. Proven expertise and experience in the fields of financial management, risk management, performance management and internal auditing is a prerequisite. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, GRAP Standards and any other legislation governing the public sector will serve as an added advantage.
A minimum of ten (10) years’ senior management experience in Risk, Audit, Accounting, Governance, Information Technology, Law. At least three (3) years experience in the Public Sector. Preference will be given to applicants with experience serving on Audit Committees of Government Departments, Public Entities.
Analytical reasoning abilities. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), Interpersonal relations, Knowledge and understanding of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Treasury Regulations, and other relevant legislation/policies, e.g. GRAP, GAAP and National Treasury, and practice notes, Knowledge and understanding of the roles of Internal and External Auditors, and understanding the Public Service Regulations framework.
The successful candidates will be appointed for an initial contract period of 1 year.
Members will be remunerated per meeting for preparation and attendance in terms prescribed by the National Treasury annual approved rates.

Graduate Internship: Monitoring and Evaluation of Energy Efficiency

PROJECT BACKGROUND:
The Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings and Infrastructure Programme (EEPBIP) aims to employ a South African graduate for the purpose of an internship. The EEPBIP, funded by the NAMA Facility, supports the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) in scaling-up energy efficiency projects in public sector institutions.
The Job description below is for an intern to be employed to support SANEDI in their activities in the establishment of a Monitoring and Evaluation system for energy efficiency project identification for municipalities, provinces, national government and State-Owned Entities. The position will in principle be based at the SANEDI offices in Sandton, Johannesburg; however, during COVID restrictions, this position will require remote working.
The intern will be be providing technical support in the development of a Monitoring and Evaluation System for public sector energy efficiency projects - their tasks will therefore comprise support to following activities, but not limited to:
