A Defining Year for South Africa’s Energy Sector
The 2025/26 financial year marks a pivotal period for South Africa’s energy sector – one of renewed commitment,
accountability, and opportunity. In July, I attended the Minister of Electricity and Energy’s Budget Vote Speech in Cape
Town, where the Department’s budget was approved. This milestone provides both the mandate and resources to
advance the Ministry’s five top priorities: energy planning, universal access, grid resilience, energy efficiency and energy
security – through a balanced energy mix of clean coal, renewables, gas-to-power, and nuclear. These priorities mirror
SANEDI’s core mandate and reaffirm our organisation’s pivotal role in supporting the nation’s transition to a secure,
sustainable and inclusive energy future.
