Environmental Monitoring Intern

Overview:

Department : Cleaner Fossil Fuels

Assist in the implementation, assessment and performance in a pilot CO2 monitoring project.
Assist in monitoring and devising response strategies to greenhouse gas emissions and appropriate implementation
Conduct environmental awareness education programmes designed and agreed by Ugu District Education Municipality and SANEDI
Assist in compiling stakeholder reports on pertinent environmental monitoring data, stakeholder engagement activities.
Identifying and coordinate environmental capacity building opportunities
Establish a reporting structure of the activities on site using the specified reporting parameters
General administrative duties.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Environmental Sciences/Management or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of EIAs and climate change in the South African context
  • Understanding of applicable environmental legislation.
  • Must be highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Drivers licence or in the process of obtaining one
  • Proficiency in English and isiZulu languages
  • Must be a resident of the Ugu District Municipality area

Senior Advisor: Measurement & Verification, (M & V)

Overview:

Department : Energy Efficiency

To manage the measurement and verification REVIEW function of all savings accomplished under Section 12I and Section 12L of the Income Tax Amendment Act and associated Regulations, whilst also verifying the sustainability thereof through proper contract and project management, in line with PMSA project management methodologies.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Engineering Qualification (Mechanical, Chemical and/or Electrical).
  • CEM (Certified Energy Manager), certification would be an advantage.
  • CMVP (Certified Measurement and Verification Professional), certification essential.

Related Experience:

  • 5 years, (excluding years of study)
  • Knowledge of Project and contract management.
  • Engaging and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of basic Financial & Commercial processes
  • Knowledge and excellent understanding of energy efficiency, process optimisation, load/demand management and renewable energies,
  • General understanding of the energy supply-side and demand-side management and their impacts on the environment,
  • Knowledge of the income tax incentives, (Section 12I & 12L),
  • Integrated knowledge of M&V related standards, regulations, guidelines and best practices, (IPMVP I, II & III, SANS 50 010:2012).

Programme Operations Officer (Two-year Contract)

Overview:

Department : Renewables Energy

A growth position has become available within the Programme Management Unit (PMU) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Solar Technology Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Programme. The Programme is funded by the DST and implemented by the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI). The successful candidate will be based at SANEDI offices in Sandton.
